Lot 3526 RARE BLAKE BOLT ACTION RIFLE WITH

WINCHESTER MARKED HOOK GUARD BAYO. Cal. 30 Army (30-40 Krag). S# 246.These rare bolt action rifles were design by John H Blake. They were submitted in the US Army rifle trials in 1893 and later in the 1895 Navy rifle trials losing out the bid to be adopted by the US military. The unique rotary magazine is detachable and allows for speedy reloads. After the failed trials he attempted to sell his rifles on the civilian market. This example has a 30" bbl with a dovetailed high bead front sight. Military wind gauge rear sight. The receiver has added markings which appear hand engraved "Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co. / New Haven Conn. U.S.A. Pat. Nov. 5 95 Nov. 12. 95. Aug. 17 97. Jan 25. 98 / Aug 23 98". The breech ring has an added hand engraved "30 US". A hand engraved "Winchester" has been added to the bottom of the magazine well. Left of receiver has a magazine selector "Single" over "Rapid". Mounted with a 2-pc walnut stock set with short handguard fastened with 3 bands. The butt terminates with a serrated semi crescent buttplate. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Winchester Repeating Arms marked bayonet with hooked guard. CONDITION: overall fair. Bbl and receiver finish has faded with approx 40% of the finish remaining with the balance turning to a brown patina. Replacement front band. Sanded and refinished stock set with scattered handling marks and scratches. Bore has distinct rifling with some areas of pitting. (25-1355/ZAL). CURIO. $1,000-2,000.
